Biathlete Simon Kaiser fulfills his dream in the World Cup – a Hoppstädter on the road to success!
Simon Kaiser, a 25-year-old biathlete from Hoppstädten-Weiersbach, has realized his childhood dream: he competed in the World Cup. Saarbrücken newspaper reports that Kaiser does not come from a classic biathlon stronghold, but from a small town in Rhineland-Palatinate, where he has nevertheless developed into one of the best biathletes in Germany.
His path to this elite group began early. At the age of twelve, Kaiser started his biathlon career with the Saarland biathlon team in Lebach. Two years later he moved to the sports-specific high school in Oberhof. After graduating from school in 2018, he trained as a police officer in Thuringia and completed this as a police master in 2020. Despite this formalistic training, he trains regularly at the Oberhof performance center under the experienced trainers Jens Filbrich, Erik Lesser and Marko Danz.
Competitive career and advancement
Kaiser's previous competitive career was characterized by midfield finishes in national competitions. But he worked undeterred on his skills and joined the development squad of the German Ski Association (DSV) in 2020/21. A highlight of his career so far was taking part in the 2021 Junior World Championships, where he narrowly missed out on a medal. A year later he made his debut in the IBU Cup and achieved remarkable results.
In the 2022/23 season he remained in the DSV B team, but won silver at the German Championships and landed in the top 10 of the IBU Cup placements. Wikipedia documents Kaiser's continuous rise, which culminated in promotion to the senior national team in 2023/24. Despite a challenging competition calendar, he was one of the best athletes in the IBU Cup and was ready in time for the coming season.
Triple World Cup nomination
In the 2024/25 season, Simon Kaiser will remain in the A team and has received a nomination for the World Cup in Hochfilzen, which makes him the best German in the IBU Cup standings. The goal he set himself to compete with the best biathletes in the world is now becoming a reality. This season he will face rival athletes such as Johannes Thingnes Bø, Sturla Holm Lægreid and Quentin Fillon Maillet. Saarbrücken newspaper emphasizes that for him this is not just a sporting competition, but also the fulfillment of a long-held dream.
Simon Kaiser impressively shows that hard work and determination can pay off. His journey from a humble beginning in Hoppstädten-Weiersbach to the highest levels of biathlon is an inspiration for many young athletes.
