Traffic chaos on the A6: Important construction work will start soon!

Since Monday, June 2, 2025, drivers on the A6 in the direction of Saarbrücken can expect significant traffic restrictions. The reason is the necessary new asphalting work in the departure area of the St. Ingbert West junction, which extends over around 400 meters. This measure was initiated in order to prepare for major construction work on the Mannheim direction in the summer of 2025, as Autobahn GmbH announced. The departure is closed for days from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., which can lead to disruptions.

The diversion will be signposted on site and the remaining traffic will be routed past the construction site in one lane. Despite these regulations, traffic disruptions cannot be completely ruled out, which is why drivers are recommended to keep an eye on current traffic reports. On Friday, June 6, 2025, the “Am Kahlenberg” parking lot will also not be available due to the work.

Further restrictions on the A6

In addition to the asphalting work, there are also additional restrictions due to subsoil investigations on the A6. These will take place between the St. Ingbert-Mitte junction and the Rohrbach junction from June 4th to 6th, 2025 and take place daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During this time, the standard lane and the fast lane will be closed, and a single-lane traffic route will also be set up here.

Furthermore, there are long-term construction sites on the A6 that are also important beyond the horizon of current events. For example, bridge work on the Fechingen valley bridge in both directions is scheduled to be completed by January 1st, 2028 and on the Grumbachtal bridge by December 16th, 2026. There will also be road narrowings in other places, such as at Viernheimer Kreuz, since July 1, 2025.

Long-term construction sites

  • Brückenarbeiten Talbrücke Fechingen: A6 Metz/Saarbrücken – Kaiserslautern bis 01.01.2028.
  • Brückenarbeiten Grumbachtalbrücke: A6 Metz/Saarbrücken – Kaiserslautern bis 16.12.2026.
