Eystrup natural outdoor pool: Only open on weekends – lifeguards wanted!
The natural outdoor pool in Eystrup officially starts the new season on June 1, 2025. However, due to an acute shortage of staff, the pool will only be open on weekends. The only available lifeguard, Artyom Smolin, allows opening on Fridays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., as the rake reported.
The Eystrup swimming club is having difficulties finding additional qualified staff. This could lead to an unsafe opening, as in the event of a Smolin failure, the pool may remain closed on weekends. The club is urgently looking for more lifeguards and has already made several attempts to recruit new employees, but the requests have so far been unsuccessful the district newspaper.
Requirements and training offers
In order to work as a lifeguard in a natural outdoor pool, applicants must be at least 18 years old, be physically fit and have a valid silver lifeguard badge. In addition, first aider training (not older than 2 years) is required. The tasks include supervision of pool operations, first aid and rescue measures as well as maintenance of the outdoor pool facilities. To accommodate those interested, the swimming club offers to finance lifeguard training, including a first aid workshop.
Currently, Smolin will be stationed at a different location next year, further complicating the search for a new lifeguard. The club hopes that a second lifeguard will be found over the course of the season so that regular operations can begin from Tuesday to Thursday.
Future plans and recommendations for bathers
It is also recommended that bathers regularly visit the natural outdoor pool homepage. The opening times are published there, including possible short-term closures due to bad weather or a lack of staff. The swimming club plans to expand its opening hours in the future if the staffing situation improves.
