Saarbrücken celebrates sport: The fourth Saar Sports Day delights 5,000 visitors!
On Saturday, July 8, 2025, the fourth Saar Sports Day took place at the Saar Sports Campus, formerly the Hermann Neuberger Sports School, in Saarbrücken. The event attracted almost 5,000 enthusiastic visitors and offered more than 40 participation opportunities for young and old. The spacious area of 90,000 square meters was transformed into a diverse sports area that offered numerous activities.
Visitors could look forward to a colorful program that included, among other things, the bubble arena, artistic cycling, BMX, Aikido and chess. Unusual offerings such as a football darts board and the panning championship – a barbecue championship – also provided entertainment. A police presence ensured security and order throughout the event, which was aimed at families and those interested in sports.
Children's activities and positive feedback
The offer was particularly exciting for children, who were able to play floorball, try out cheerleading and even go canoeing, among other things. Lars Albert was there with his seven-year-old son Niklas, while Elias Alahmad and his siblings Eliana and Ouais, as well as friends Nika, Levi Naudorf and Katharina Irsch, enjoyed the variety of sports. The feedback from participants was extremely positive: many expressed enthusiasm about the great opportunities to try out new sports and had pleasant experiences in achieving speed records.
The Saar Sports Day, which is a big highlight this year, goes back to a previous event. The SaarSportTag took place on Friday, July 1st, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the same site and offered 30 other opportunities to participate, including sports such as billiards, badminton and fencing. These events demonstrated the desire to attract young and old into the sport while offering support from dedicated club representatives who helped find the right club. Reinhold Jost, the Minister for the Interior, Building and Sport, acted as patron
Overall, the Saar Sports Day offered an eventful offering and was a complete success, underlining the importance of sport in the community. The positive response from participants shows how important such events are in presenting children and young people in the region with a wider range of sports options and encouraging them to lead an active lifestyle.
