Knife attack in Hamburg Central Station: Six injured people are in danger of death!
There was a tragic knife attack at Hamburg Central Station in which several people were injured. According to initial information, a total of 17 people were attacked, six of whom were critically injured, three seriously and three slightly injured. The police initially did not announce the exact number of injured people, but the fire department confirmed the high number of victims, including some seriously injured people. The attack occurred on the platform between tracks 13 and 14, a busy area of the station, particularly during rush hour.
A large contingent of police and rescue workers quickly arrived at the scene. A 39-year-old woman, identified as a German citizen, was arrested. The police assume that they went it alone and, according to a police spokesman, have ruled out a larger plot. Evidence suggests that the suspect may have been in an exceptional psychological state.
Backgrounds and reactions
The background to the attack is currently still under investigation. Hamburg's mayor Peter Tschentscher expressed his thanks to the emergency services and expressed hope for a full recovery of the seriously injured. Chancellor Merz was also shocked by the incident and expressed his condolences to the victims and their families.
Hamburg Central Station, one of the busiest transport hubs in Germany, has strict regulations against carrying weapons, including knives. However, there has been a worrying series of knife attacks across the country in recent months, in which scores of people have been injured or killed. An example from previous incidents shows an attack in Bielefeld in which several people were critically injured in front of a bar. A Syrian suspect was arrested in this connection.
The events at the main station led to a temporary closure of tracks 13 and 14, while traffic on tracks 11 and 12 was at a standstill. The Steintorbrücke and Steintordamm streets were also closed and the stairs to the tracks were blocked. Deutsche Bahn expressed its sympathy and dismay over the incident.
In view of the recent knife attacks in Germany, which have already resulted in serious injuries and deaths, the question of safety in public transport and heavily frequented places remains. The authorities are called upon to clarify the background to this terrible act and take appropriate measures.
