Saarlouis talents shine at the gymnastics festival in Leipzig!
On June 13, 2025, the International German Gymnastics Festival will take place in Leipzig and will attract attention with around 80,000 participants from all over the world. As the largest competitive and popular sports event, it is an important platform that is not only dedicated to sport, but also to sustainability. Weekly Mirror Online reports that the participants of TV 1872 Saarlouis were able to achieve outstanding placements in various competitions.
Particularly noteworthy is Laura Ehl, who secured the German runner-up title in the swimming pentathlon in the 14-15 age group. This demanding discipline combines artistic jumping, diving and swimming in three different positions and is considered one of the oldest all-around competitions in the German Gymnastics Association. In addition, Peter Theobald achieved a strong fifth place in the 30 age group in a top-class field of participants.
Strong performances from Saarland
Emilio Termini also qualified and competed in the 14-15 age group. TV 1872 Saarlouis thus consolidated its excellent position in the swimming pentathlon in Saarland and underlined the club's committed work with young talent. Wolfgang Ernst enjoyed his bronze medal at the German Senior Championships in gymnastics and took a respectable 6th place in the 80+ category in the German Gymnastics Association competition.
However, the 2025 gymnastics festival does not only stand for sporting successes. The topic of sustainability also plays a central role. According to information from Turnfest.de At the event, special attention is paid to reducing the ecological footprint. Although major events inevitably have an impact on the environment, those responsible at the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) have taken measures to keep the impact as low as possible.
Sustainability in focus
Up to 100,000 participants are expected, and the DTB, Germany's largest children's and youth association with over 1.8 million underage participants, is already incorporating the topic of sustainability into its planning. DTB experts and specialists from Leipzig are working together on a comprehensive strategy to take ecological and social aspects of the event into account.
A specially formed sustainability team has developed a concept that identifies key options for action and concrete measures to reduce ecological impact. Visitors to the gymnastics festival can experience how sporting activities and sustainability can be linked. Tangible measures should illustrate how each individual can take responsibility for social and ecological challenges.
