Fairplay Tour: Orscholz welcomes 150 young cyclists for a good cause!

On June 17, 2025, Orscholz at the Saarschleife is preparing for the upcoming Fairplay Tour of the Greater Region, which will serve as a stage location in the series of events for the second time this year. The tour, which was launched in 1999, aims to encourage young people and raise funds for a good cause. This year the tour will travel through Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate from June 28th to July 5th, with 150 young people and carers from four countries taking part. The total length of the tour is 500 kilometers by bike, and the proceeds go to school building projects in Rwanda.

The young cyclists will be welcomed on June 30th at 5 p.m. at the Cloef Atrium in Orscholz. Sports Minister Reinhold Jost, Alderman Rainer Borens, school principal Georg Dillschneider and other representatives from sports, business and politics will be present to welcome the participants. During their time in Orscholz, the young athletes are accommodated in the community school and have the opportunity to exchange ideas and network.

Stages and objectives

The following day the third stage of the tour begins, which leads from Orscholz via Perl, Schengen and Thionville to Esch-sur-Alzette in Luxembourg. The Fair Play Tour not only aims to raise money for projects in the partner country Rwanda, but also promotes values such as fairness, international understanding and non-violence in sport and society. The funds raised will be used to improve the school building infrastructure in Rwanda through a variety of measures.

Over the years, the Fairplay Tour has developed into an important platform to strengthen cohesion and solidarity among young people from different countries. The participants come from different schools and youth facilities in the greater region, including a team from Orscholz. In total, the cyclists cover more than 620 kilometers, underlining the scope and importance of the event.
