FC Homburg celebrates the Saarland Cup with a 9-0 win!

On May 24, 2025, FC 08 Homburg won the Saarland Cup in a convincing final against FC Palatia Limbach, which took place in Ludwigspark in Saarbrücken. The fourth division team Homburg showed an impressive performance and won the game 9-0 (1-0). In doing so, they secured participation in the first round of the DFB Cup and will receive a bonus of around 210,000 euros for their participation in August. This successful return to the DFB Cup marks Homburg's first participation since the 2023/24 season, in which they reached the round of 16.

David Hummel opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Homburg dominated the game, while Limbach, who plays in the 6th league, could hardly create any chances. A turning point in the game was the red card for Minos Gouras from Limbach in the 35th minute due to a serious foul. Despite this outnumbered number, Phillipp Steinhart missed a penalty in the 41st minute to extend the lead before halftime.

Homburg's offensive game never ended: Hummel scored his third goal in the 71st minute and made the score 5-0. Markus Mendler (77th), Nicolas Jörg (86th) and Lukas Quirin (89th) ultimately ensured that the final score increased to 9-0. With this historic defeat for Limbach, who reached a cup final for the first time in the club's history, FC 08 Homburg will appear as favorites in the DFB Cup.
