EuroGames 2028: Frankfurt invites you to celebrate diversity in sport!

In 2028, Frankfurt am Main will host the EuroGames, a major event that has been held since 1992. Over 4,000 participants are expected in the Hessian metropolis, which will take place six weeks after the Olympic Games. This return to Hesse after 33 years since the EuroGames last took place in Frankfurt in 1995 was decided by the European Gay and Lesbian Sports Federation (EGLSF). Tagesschau reports.

The event will be enriched over four days with competitions in 20 disciplines, including archery, basketball, hockey, badminton, darts, boxing and football. In addition to the sporting competition, great importance is placed on the topics of diversity and cohesion. Mayor Mike Josef (SPD) expressed his delight at the decision, which stands for an open society and solidarity in sport. The EuroGames are aimed at everyone, especially the LGBTQ+ community, and stand for democratic values and participation in society.

Accompanying program and CSD

EuroGames 2028 is closely linked to Christopher Street Day (CSD), which takes place at the same time. On this occasion there will be an accompanying program open to the public, including sports, cultural activities and workshops related to the Roman. This additional program is intended not only to enrich the sporting event, but also to set an example for diversity and inclusion.

Through the successful organization and support of the EGLSF, the event will not only be a platform for sporting competitions, but also an invitation for queer and non-queer people to show solidarity together and take part in a diverse and inclusive sporting experience. The next EuroGames will take place in Cardiff in 2027, while preparations for Frankfurt are already in full swing, as Hessenschau highlights.

In summary, this event will be a significant event for the city of Frankfurt and a sign of the constant development and support of an open society. With a wide range of disciplines and a focus on community, the focus will be not only on athletic competition, but also on cohesion and the celebration of diversity.
