Severe weather warning: Thunderstorms and storms are coming in Rhineland-Palatinate!
Unsettled weather and possible storms are expected in Rhineland-Palatinate next weekend. The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a weather warning for the region, which will come into force from Sunday afternoon. After a dry phase lasting several days, a low pressure area follows, which sometimes brings heavy showers and thunderstorms. This could also be accompanied by severe squalls, which could pose a danger to the population. Despite the announced disruptions, temperatures of up to 30 degrees are expected for the end of the week, before the weather becomes more changeable from Monday with a maximum of 25 degrees and regional variations at higher altitudes of up to 19 degrees. On Tuesday the weather is expected to calm down and temperatures will rise to a maximum of 26 degrees.
The current weather warnings from the DWD also include information about gusts of wind, thunderstorms and heavy rain. If wind speeds exceed 50 km/h, warning level 1 comes into force, while warning levels up to extreme storms have been set for gusts over 140 km/h. Thunderstorm warnings are divided into different levels, with the highest warning level warning of extreme symptoms such as hail or hurricane-like gusts. Different intensities are also taken into account when it comes to heavy rain: if the amount exceeds 40 l/m² in one hour, an extreme storm warning is issued.
