Amazon opens new logistics center in Bietigheim: 2,000 jobs in sight!
Amazon is planning to build a new logistics center in Bietigheim, a municipality in the Rastatt district, Baden-Württemberg. The company aims to create around 2,000 new jobs, which could represent a significant improvement for both the local economy and the labor market situation. The Bietigheim municipal council recently approved the project, which was highlighted by Mayor Constantin Braun as an opportunity to create new jobs and training positions. He also emphasized that the establishment of the logistics center would strengthen the community as a business location.
Bietigheim is about 17 kilometers from Karlsruhe and had around 6,500 residents at the end of 2023. The planned logistics center will cover an area of 180,000 square meters. The focus will be on storing small and medium-sized goods, with space for up to 20 million items. The new jobs will be created in the areas of logistics, technology and management.
Early planning phase
Although the local council has approved the plans, the project is still in the early planning stages. No building applications have been submitted at the moment, which makes the completion date uncertain. This uncertainty also applies in the context of the recent closure of a temporary Amazon distribution center in Zweibrücken, Rhineland-Palatinate. This decision could partially impact Amazon's future strategy in the region.
In total, Amazon has around 100 locations in Germany, including 23 logistics centers. There are ten of these locations in Baden-Württemberg with a total of around 3,000 employees. The future logistics center in Bietigheim could not only contribute to the creation of jobs, but also increase the importance of the region in the network of Amazon logistics locations.
The area chosen for the new location has a special significance: it was used for gravel and sand mining in the 1970s and is partly overgrown with forest. The location between the A5 motorway and the B3 federal highway is also strategically favorable to ensure efficient connections and logistics.
Overall, the planned construction of the logistics center represents a promising development for Bietigheim and the surrounding region, with the focus on the possibility of new job opportunities and economic strengthening.
