Fatal head-on collision near Trier: two people die!
On June 16, 2025, a tragic traffic accident occurred on State Road 150 between Büdlicherbrück and the Mehring junction, near Trier. At around 1:20 p.m. there was a head-on collision between a car and a truck, resulting in the death of two people.
The car, which had two people in it, was driven by a 76-year-old driver. Both occupants, the driver and his 68-year-old passenger, suffered fatal injuries in the collision. The 54-year-old truck driver, however, was slightly injured and taken to a hospital. The exact cause of the accident is still unclear and the investigation is ongoing. An expert was called in to clarify the background to the accident.
Emergency services and traffic disruptions
Numerous emergency services were on site to rescue and investigate the accident. These included the police stations from Hermeskeil, Schweich and Morbach as well as the Schweich police motorway station. A traffic accident investigation team from the Trier police headquarters, the rescue service and a rescue helicopter with an emergency doctor were also on duty. In addition, several volunteer fire departments from Thalfang, Büdlich and Heidenburg supported the measures on site.
State Road 150 remained completely closed until around 7:30 p.m. due to cleanup work and the accident investigation. The Thalfang road maintenance department was deployed to secure and cordon off the accident site.
Previous accidents on state roads
Another serious accident that occurred on April 28, 2024 shows the dangers of state roads. Several vehicles collided on state road 1165 between Lauterburg and Essingen when a 23-year-old driver drove into the opposite lane in a sharp right-hand bend at an inappropriate speed. In this context, a total of four people were injured, including a 43-year-old motorcyclist who suffered life-threatening injuries. Here, too, there were significant consequences of the accident; The 69-year-old driver's car overturned and ended up on its roof.
