Saarbrücken celebrates football and 120 years of sports fans with a mega party!
On Saturday, June 14, 2025, several thousand people gathered at the Saarwiesen Stadium in Saarbrücken-Burbach to watch the SFV Ü Cup of the Saarland Football Association (SFV). With tropical temperatures, attendees were drawn to the smell of rubbing alcohol and high sales at concession stands outside the locker room events as they looked forward to the final games of the day. This year's organizer was Sportfreunde Saarbrücken, who also celebrated their 120th birthday.
The SFV Ü-Cup is known as the highlight of the season in Saarland AH football and took place in a special format with four finals in one day. The games started at 1:00 p.m. and at 1:30 p.m. SV Hasborn played against SG Lebach/Landsweiler in the Ü40 cup final. The Ü50 cup final between SG Fischbach/Spiesen and VfB Dillingen followed at 3:00 p.m. The Ü40 championship final between SG Limbach-Kirkel-Kleinottweiler and SF 05 Saarbrücken started at 4:30 p.m., before the Ü32 cup final between Spvgg Quierschied and SG Lebach/Landsweiler took place at 6:00 p.m. Willy Rohn, consultant for leisure and popular sports at the Saarland Football Association, described the SFV Ü-Cup as a highlight for the AH teams, which is not only ambitious in terms of sport, but also serves as a community celebration.
A day full of activities
In addition to the exciting football matches, the marquee in the stadium was a vibrant meeting place. The band CORONA provided musical entertainment from 7:30 p.m. The food left nothing to be desired: from a grill truck to a smash burger stand to a sugar paradise, there was something for all tastes.
The atmosphere in the stadium turned into a big party, accompanied by live music and the cheers of the spectators, who celebrated the historic moments of the 120th anniversary of Sportfreunde Saarbrücken in their own way. The Venue was transformed into an arena of joy and community where the passion for the sport of football and the celebration of regional traditions were always at the forefront.
