On Sunday, September 14, 2025, the Ellenfeld Stadium in Neunkirchen will be the venue for this year's Open Monument Day. Under the motto "What are our monuments worth? Priceless or irreplaceable", the event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. invites you to discover the uniqueness of this historic stadium. The Ellenfeld Stadium was only listed as a historical monument in January 2025 and is considered the only stadium in Germany that recreates the atmosphere of the Bundesliga's founding era, as Fupa reports.
The Ellenfeld Stadium, which has been in operation since 1912, was rebuilt in the late 1950s and early 1960s and is now the first and oldest classic football stadium in Saarland. As part of the action day, visitors can expect a varied program.
Program highlights and co-organizers
The stadium opens its doors at 10 a.m. After admission, a concert by the police orchestra is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in front of the seating grandstand. This will be followed by a talk session or a podcast with Nicky Kassner, which will take place from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the VIP room. The guests include well-known personalities such as Jupp Henkes and Dr. Hans Bauer.
In addition, stadium tours are offered every hour until 6 p.m. and last approximately 45 minutes. Pictures and memorabilia from the history of the stadium and the Borussia Neunkirchen club are presented at other exhibition stands, both in the VIP room and in the sports hall.
