New gas detection process: Safety for Edlitz on four wheels!

In the Edlitz region, Netz NÖ's gas pipelines are being subjected to a comprehensive inspection. This measure serves to ensure the security of the gas network, which represents a modern pipeline network with a total length of around 13,820 kilometers. While the inspections were previously carried out on foot using mobile devices, an optimized method is now used.

The new technology used in the gas detection process relies on special vehicles. This method was developed in collaboration with Picarro, allowing gas measurements to be carried out more effectively. After successful tests in two pilot regions in the fall, this innovative technology will be used throughout Lower Austria in the future.

Optimization through vehicle-based gas detection

The vehicle-based vehicles are equipped with sensors that are used to detect gas leaks. This innovation offers the advantage that it is not necessary to follow the exact route of the cables. Instead, the vehicles can cover long distances efficiently, significantly speeding up inspections.

The examinations take place both during the day and at night. No photos or videos are taken; the data collected relates exclusively to the methane concentration in the air. In order to guarantee precise results, each road section is traveled several times. The measurements include gas concentration as well as wind direction and the location of suspected leaks.

Regular checks according to legal requirements

The gas pipes are subject to strict legal regulations and are checked at set intervals, which vary between 1 and 9 years depending on the material. This safety offset is crucial in order to identify potential dangers at an early stage and react accordingly. The new method is intended to increase the efficiency of inspections and further increase security for citizens in the region.

With these measures, Netz NÖ shows that the protection and security of the gas network has the highest priority. Further information about this project is available here noe.orf.at while providing detailed insights into the procedure and technology meinkreis.at be provided.
