In St. Ingbert, reports of rat sightings in a former Hamm Bakery building are causing continued concern among residents. The sightings, which were reported back in January, prompted the city administration to conduct an on-site visit. Difficult conditions for residents

Alfred Lampel, a local resident, particularly complains about the rat problem, which he has observed for years. Some residents keep switching sides of the street because of the rats. An open garbage container next to the old bakery building, whose lid is broken, creates additional attractions for the rodents.

The building itself provides shelter for the rats as the basement openings are half open. The owner of the house said loudly S.R has already contacted the city to initiate measures to combat the rat population. This also includes an inspection by the property management. They have promised to install protective plates to keep the rats away.

The city has responded to residents' complaints and is actively fighting the rat problem. The city police monitor the building and rat bait is placed throughout the city once a year to keep the population down.

Shared responsibility for cleanliness

Nevertheless, the primary responsibility for combating the rat problem lies with the property owner, not the city. An appeal is made to residents: garbage should not be disposed of in the area or in the canal, and emptied yellow bags should not be left out prematurely.
