St. Ingbert fire department in constant operation: extinguishing hazardous substances and fires!

On Monday, May 21, 2025, the St. Ingbert fire department responded to several operations that posed both technical challenges and an acutely dangerous situation. The day began in the morning with a fire investigation, which was organized in advance to identify potential fire hazards.

At around 1 p.m., emergency services received reports of a gas-like smell on Beethovenstrasse. Residents reported a possible danger, which led to the immediate mobilization of the fire department and municipal utilities. As part of the mission, they carried out comprehensive measurements in cellars and in the sewer system. Fortunately, no dangerous gas leaks were detected. The affected section of the canal was then flushed with water to remove any gases or residues that may have accumulated.

Fires and rescue operations

Another incident occurred on the same day in Rentrisch, where a fire broke out in an apartment caused by a burning table grill. The residents managed to put out the fire with a fire blanket before the fire department arrived. The firefighting districts of St. Ingbert-Mitte and Rentrisch then provided support by moving the fire outside, checking the area and ensuring adequate ventilation. All four people who were in the smoke-filled apartment were transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.

The fire brigade in Bexbach was involved in a further operation, where a release of hazardous substances was reported in a dental practice. The St. Ingbert emergency services were requested to provide support. The structured approach according to the GAMS rule played a decisive role: recognizing danger, cordoning off, rescuing people and calling on special forces. This approach is particularly important to ensure the safety of emergency services and the civilian population.

The fire department was active throughout the course of the operations with a total of 18 emergency services and three vehicles. This revealed the need for a coordinated and well-organized approach in situations with potentially hazardous substances, such as diesel fuel spilled in a vehicle fire, which had to be contained in order to avoid further danger. A team wearing heavy respiratory protection was deployed to fight the fire directly on the vehicle, whereby the open flames were largely extinguished.

Summary of operations

The St. Ingbert fire department managed several operations on Monday that were characterized by quick action, teamwork and technical expertise. The measures implemented by the emergency services illustrate the importance of well-functioning emergency management in the region.
