New manager at the Red Cross: Lukas Ornezeder sworn in in Rohrbach!
On July 1, 2025, Lukas Ornezeder completed his training with the Red Cross in the stone hall with an impressive swearing-in. This training, which lasted almost two years, represents the highest level of leadership training in the Red Cross. Ornezeder, who has been working for the Red Cross since 2017 and has been working as a professional employee at the Rohrbach local office for five years, describes his time in the training as exciting, demanding and extensive.
The training not only promoted professional skills, but also enabled personal development. Ornezeder emphasizes that the knowledge acquired is of great use both in a professional context and in everyday life. He particularly emphasizes the friendships that develop and the Upper Austria-wide network, which is helpful for exchanging experiences and camaraderie.
Scope of training
Management training in the Red Cross consists of three main parts that are carried out in the regional associations. The modules include the “Path to Leadership”, “Leadership in Action” and “The Manager in the RC”. The contents of the major accident and the entire second part are not obligatory for managers who are not active in the event of an emergency or major incident. The decision about participation in the training modules lies with the respective regional association.
To complete this demanding training, participants must complete a written thesis or take part in a “business simulation game”, followed by an oral final examination before a committee. Interestingly, these two options are equivalent, allowing leavers flexibility in the final exam.
Tasks of Lukas Ornezeder
In his role in the Rohrbach District Rescue Squad, Ornezeder has various important tasks. He works in area 4, supply, and is responsible for the short-term construction of quarters. He also takes care of caring for people, especially at times of increased need, such as at the beginning of the Ukraine War. His area of responsibility also includes catering for larger outpatient clinics or longer missions. He is also responsible for maintaining resources in the event of a disaster.
The training that Ornezeder underwent is part of the extensive program of the Red Cross Education Center in cooperation with the NPO Competence Center of the Vienna University of Economics and Business, which specializes in preparing managers for their future challenges. As roteskreuz.at adds, this training plays a crucial role in the development of effective and competent leaders in the Red Cross.
