Wehrden train station: Modernization brings new mobility for Beverungen!

Wehrden train station shines in new splendor after extensive renovations. Both the station itself and the forecourt have been modernized and are now much more appealing to passengers. One of the biggest improvements is accessibility, which is of great importance to many passengers, especially those with mobility impairments. This was done by Westfalen-Blatt documented in detail.

In addition to barrier-free access, parking options for cars have been significantly improved. Commuters and visitors can now park more safely, making the station more attractive to use. The waiting areas have also been redesigned and now offer a welcoming place for travelers. Particularly noteworthy is the direct connection to local public transport, which makes access easier and encourages the use of combined means of transport.

A step towards modernization

The renovation work at the Wehrden train stop is the result of a lengthy process. On-site meetings were held with Bundestag member Christian Haase and state parliament member Matthias Goeken in July 2018 to discuss existing grievances. The weaknesses identified at the time included the lack of barrier-free access as well as inadequate parking spaces for cars and bicycles and an unattractive waiting area. These grievances were brought about by the Wehrden-Weserbergland website documented.

In 2018, the Beverungen city administration put forward a proposal for the overall renovation of the train stop, supported by a proposal from the CDU council group to improve the conditions. Thanks to the funding raised via the Westfalen-Lippe local transport (NWL), a budgeted amount of 300,000 euros was made available for the structural modernization and barrier-free expansion of the platform.

Completion postponed

The work was originally scheduled to be completed by the end of 2021, but due to delays this date was pushed back to early 2024. Mayor Grimm and other responsible persons emphasize the importance of the funding and thank everyone involved for their support. In addition, the expansion of the fiber optic network in Wehrden is planned for 2024, which will further improve the region's digital connection.

A further look into the future shows the planned improvement of the cycle path network between Amelunxen and Wehrden. The aim is to promote intermodality, i.e. the simultaneous use of different means of transport, in order to increase the accessibility of the train station and the surrounding area. The progress at Wehrden train station is a positive example of the sustainable development of the transport infrastructure in the region.
