Summer Street 2025: Art and music conquer Alt-Saarbrücken!

There is currently a lot on offer for residents and visitors in Alt-Saarbrücken: the “Sommerstrasse” is back. From July 8th to August 3rd, 2025, Alvenslebenstrasse will be transformed into a meeting place. This initiative promotes games, art, music and neighborhood encounters such as Saarbrücken newspaper reported. Alvenslebenstrasse is located off Heuduckstrasse, near the University of Applied Sciences (HTW), and will be temporarily traffic-calmed for this period.

In the last two years, events have already taken place successfully on Cecilienstrasse and Försterstrasse in the Nauwieser district. In 2025, activities in Alt-Saarbrücken are expected to reach a new dimension. The event is organized by the Alt-Saarbrücken district office and the city's cultural office, which invite you to fill the street with new ideas and encounters.

A variety of activities await visitors

The summer street in Alt-Saarbrücken promises a varied program for all age groups. The events include play opportunities for children, social barbecue evenings and music into the night. There are also creative workshops, street art and numerous opportunities to get actively involved. The positive response from previous years shows that such innovative formats are generating great interest.

A variety of activities were already offered in the Nauwieser district in 2023. Children played in the streets and neighbors gathered at barbecues. There were concerts and a repair café, while a mini football World Cup provided additional fun. The person responsible for planning and organization, Frank Schilz, and the Saarbrücken Cultural Office worked together to ensure that the project was well received.

Feedback and improvements for the future

Feedback was mostly positive, but there were also concerns about transport options, particularly around delivery and parking. Some improvements are therefore planned for the coming years. The program will be adjusted in time: it will probably end at 8 p.m. at the latest, on Fridays and Saturdays it will remain open until 10 p.m., while on Mondays and Tuesdays there will be quiet “chill days” without a loud program.

In addition, a security service will be integrated and the presence of the public order office in the Nauwieser district will be increased in order to ensure a harmonious atmosphere. From July 24, 2024, detailed information about the closures and contact persons will be provided on the city's summer street page.

The “Sommerstrasse” initiative impressively shows how public space can be revitalized through temporary measures. The inviting activities and the diverse program offer an excellent opportunity to promote more community life in Alt-Saarbrücken in the summer months.
