Green waste collection in Saarbrücken: Register now and save costs!

On Thursday, November 20, 2025, green waste, such as shrub and tree trimmings, will be picked up by the Central Municipal Waste Management Company (ZKE). To participate in this service, registration is required by Thursday, November 13th at the latest. Interested citizens can contact: www.zke-sb.de/sperrmuellonline or register by phone at +49 681 905-2000.

The collection includes up to 4 cubic meters of green waste, with costs of 15 euros per cubic meter. It is important for citizens that the green waste is tied into manageable bundles using compostable twine, for example made from hemp or sisal. These bundles must be placed at the side of the road, not blocking roadways and sidewalks. Please note that the maximum weight per bundle is 30 kilograms and the maximum length is 1.80 meters.

Important information on disposal

In addition, leaves, grass clippings and thick branches may only be handed in at the ZKE facilities. These are located in St. Johann (Am Holzbrunnen 4) and Malstatt (Wiesenstraße 20) as well as in the composting facility in Gersweiler. This waste is accepted there for a fee. Wooden trunks and branches with a diameter of more than 10 cm can be delivered to the composting facility free of charge if they are between 1 and 3 meters long. Roots with a diameter of more than 10 cm are also accepted at the composting facility in Gersweiler for a fee. Further information is available at www.zke-sb.de/gruenschnitt available.

Meanwhile, in Western New York, more precisely at the Hamburg Fairgrounds, the “Christmas in the Country” arts and crafts festival is taking place. The event is celebrating its 41st anniversary this year and will attract numerous visitors from November 6th to 9th. Over 450 artists present their handmade products in five different buildings. These include home decor items, jewelry, candles, children's toys, pottery and gourmet foods.

Particularly noteworthy is the participation of almost 40 new artisans. The event also features a variety of activities to enrich the experience, including spirits and wine tastings and a food truck rodeo. On each day of the event, visitors can also benefit from free return passes.

Attendance and charitable support

Last year, “Christmas in the Country” had over 120,000 visitors and generated sales of more than $8 million in handmade goods. It also raised over $3 million for local charities. Supported organizations include the P.U.N.T. Foundation, the Hamburg Eden Animal Rescue Team (H.E.A.R.T.) and Variety – The Children’s Charity of Buffalo.

Hours for the event are 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on the first two days, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on November 8th, and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the final day, November 9th.
