Festival Perspectives: Unique stage art unites Germany and France!

The German-French festival Perspectives starts its 47th edition today, which will take place from May 5th to 14th, 2025. Founded in 1978, this unique cultural festival is the only one of its kind that combines German and French stage art. Over 20 locations in Germany and France serve as stages for more than 60 dates, which include a variety of performances in the fields of theater, dance, circus, music and performance. This year the festival is led by Kira Kirsch, who emphasizes the diversity of genres and the uncategorizability of many projects.

The highlights of the opening week include fascinating pieces such as “Passages” by Alice Rende, a choreography of impossible contortions in a narrow glass cube, and “Roue giratoire” by “Les filles du renard pâle”, which shows acrobatics in a spinning wheel. A rock concert with the Giant Moles directed by Philippe Quesne will also cause a stir.

Diversity and inclusivity in focus

The program also features 15 guest performances, three films, two concerts and two workshops, all aimed at reaching a wide audience. Particular attention is paid to accessibility. For example, Rimini Protocol's performance “Société Anonyme” will give viewers the opportunity to hear personal stories in complete darkness while being greeted by blind musician Gül Pridat.

Other notable productions include "EOL. End of Life" by the Darum collective, which deals with digital traces after death, and "Roommates" by the (La)Horde collective, which presents six different dance manuscripts. Current social issues such as cell phone addiction, aging as an artist and ecological issues are also addressed.

A cultural event between countries

The festival is reported on by the cultural news programs Mosaik and Resonances on WDR 3 and Westart on WDR 3 and WDR 5. Visitors can look forward to a sophisticated and diverse program that further strengthens the cultural connections between Germany and France.

The Perspectives Festival is not only a place for cultural encounters, but also a space in which knowledge of foreign languages is not a prerequisite for participation. Everyone can become part of this special cultural exchange that stimulates and inspires its visitors.
