Serious accident in Großrosseln: Driver flees after collision!

On August 23, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred in Großrosseln at around 3:30 p.m., which resulted in two people being seriously injured. This is reported by the Blue Light Report Saarland, which now provides more details about the incident. According to initial findings, there was an unsuccessful overtaking maneuver on the main road when a French vehicle tried to overtake two cars and collided head-on with an oncoming car. In the collision, the two occupants of the rammed vehicle were seriously injured and had to receive emergency medical treatment on site before being taken to hospital for intensive care.

After the accident, the driver of the French vehicle fled towards the German-French border. Witnesses report that the other inmates also tried to escape, but were held by residents and passers-by until the police arrived. The police were on site with a large number of forces to record the incident and clarify the circumstances in more detail. However, there is currently no official confirmation about the driver's escape status or further details about the background to the accident.

The traffic accident is not the first incident in Großrosseln involving a French vehicle. On April 20, 2024, there was an incident at a pedestrian crossing on Ludweilerstrasse in which a 59-year-old pedestrian from France was overlooked by a white Peugeot van while crossing the street. The pedestrian fell and sustained minor injuries. The driver stopped briefly to inquire about the pedestrian's health, but continued his journey towards France. A named witness took photos of the vehicle, but subsequent searches were negative. Emergency services had to provide first aid at the scene while an investigation was underway.

The police in Völklingen have started their investigations in both cases. Witnesses or people who can provide information about the accidents can contact the police on 06898/2020.
