Mystery Weitefeld: Suspected triple murder, perpetrator still missing!

Almost two months after the alleged triple murder of a family from the Altenkirchen district, the circumstances and whereabouts of suspect Alexander Meisner remain unclear. On April 6, 2025, a 47-year-old man, his 44-year-old wife and their 16-year-old son were found dead in their home in Weitefeld. Senior public prosecutor Mario Mannweiler described the crime as extremely brutal. Police were alerted around 3:45 a.m. after a woman made an emergency call from the area. The area was quickly cordoned off and a comprehensive search was launched.

Meisner, 61 years old, fled the crime scene on foot with a bleeding injury. Despite intensive investigations and a worldwide manhunt, which also included helicopter operations, there have been no traces of the suspect to date. There is no evidence that Meisner fled abroad. The Koblenz public prosecutor's office even goes so far as to consider the possibility that he may no longer be alive. This was also noted in the explanations about the current status of the investigation. Tagesschau reports that investigators are considering both Meisner's survival and death.

Chronology of events

A detailed tracing shows how the hectic days unfolded after the bodies were discovered. On April 6th, the day of the crime, the police quickly took action and sealed off Weitefeld. The local population has been urged to be vigilant and a tip-off hotline has been set up. On April 7, the community was in shock, sporting events were canceled and many parents decided to keep their children at home because one of the injured people was a student at IGS Betzdorf churches.

The connection between Meisner and the victims was initially unclear, but that did not dampen the investigators' enthusiasm. On April 9, officers learned of Meisner's previous conviction for attempted murder. A variety of investigative measures took place in the following days, including the establishment of a special commission of 100 officials and several public calls for the assistance of witnesses. A memorial service at Martin Luther Church on April 9 attracted about 300 participants who mourned the deceased members of the family.

The whereabouts of Alexander Meisner

On April 16, a reward of 10,000 euros was offered for information about Meisner. The case was even covered in the program “Case number XY ... unsolved”, which resulted in over 90 clues. Nevertheless, the large-scale search operation, in which 1,000 emergency services took part, was unsuccessful. Investigators also concentrated their search in the surrounding wooded areas and waterways where Meisner's escape tracks were believed to be.

Despite numerous interviews with residents in Elkenroth and the search of a large area over several days, there was no sign of life from Meisner. As of May 5th, the police had already received over 1,700 tips, but the whereabouts of the wanted man still remains a mystery. To date, the police and public prosecutor's office have no reliable information that could lead to his discovery or the motive for the cruel act. [SWR].
