MINT Stars 2025: Rhineland-Palatinate celebrates educational experts and projects

On November 7, 2025, the MINT stars were awarded again in Rhineland-Palatinate, honoring teachers and educators for their commitment in the areas of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology (MINT). The award ceremony took place in Mainz and is part of a MINT strategy that has been established in the state for almost ten years. This year, four educational institutions were honored, with each prize worth 1,500 euros and an additional special prize of 511 euros was awarded.

In his speech, Minister Sven Teuber emphasized the importance of the MINT subjects and thanked the VDE and VDI associations for their support in awarding the MINT stars. “The commitment of our teachers is crucial for promoting STEM skills among students,” emphasized Teuber. This passage points out how important it is to promote STEM education in the long term.

Award winners in focus

The award is given in three categories: daycare centers, primary schools and secondary schools, whereby the projects can be both completed and in implementation. Applications for the MINT stars can be submitted by specialists and teams from Rhineland-Palatinate educational institutions, and active MINT commitments must be embedded in an overarching concept in order to convince the jury. This jury is made up of representatives from the VDI, VDE and the Ministry of Education and evaluates the projects according to criteria such as sustainability, originality and MINT relevance.

“Our MINT star awards promote the creativity and commitment of the institutions,” says Dr. Peter Emde from VDI, who together with Dr. Kevin Rick from VDE congratulated the award winners. “It is important that we discover talent in STEM fields, especially with regard to the future of technology and science in Germany,” added Rick.

Application and deadlines

The application for the MINT Stars is done digitally and requires a project description in the form of a PDF document. The application deadline for next year is July 26, 2025, while the announcement of the winners is planned for the end of September 2025. The certificates will be handed over at the Ministry of Education in Mainz.
