LinGoLux brings language quizzes: learning in Luxembourg cafés!

A new and exciting project is emerging in Luxembourg that combines language learning with cultural discovery. The provider LinGoLux, which was founded two and a half years ago in the Müllerthal region, has focused on a platform for playful exploration of languages and the regional community. How Lesseniel reports, the offer has now been expanded to various communities along the Moselle, covering three official languages of Luxembourg as well as English.

One of LinGoLux's newest initiatives is game nights in local cafes. Here participants can not only test their knowledge, but also win smaller prizes. The quiz questions cover topics that are deeply rooted in the region. These include, among other things, questions about the rivers in Grevenmacher and the famous “strongest man in the world” from Bad Mondorf. Historical aspects, such as the place where the Schengen Agreement was signed, are also incorporated into the quiz content.

Integration of culture and language

LinGoLux aims to create a connection between language and regional culture. The quiz evenings take place in participating communities, with each event moderated by a person who provides information about the relevant communities. This allows participants not only to learn grammar and vocabulary, but also to discover the region's fairs, customs and natural attractions, as well as in one Report from Mecasbl is highlighted.

An essential element of the LinGoLux project is the technical implementation, which was realized by ECOM LUX. The number of quiz questions has increased from the initial 880 to over 2,500. Participants can now create accounts, collect badges and compare their results. This interactive approach not only promotes learning, but also social interaction among participants.

Events and local actors

The LinGoLux cafés have been well received in recent months. For example, events took place in renowned wine cellars in the region in April and May. In April they performed at the Bernard-Massard wine cellar and in May at the Crémant cellars Poll-Fabaire in Wormeldange. Future meetings are already planned, including a visit to the organic winemaker Pauls in July and a continuation of the series in September in Müllerthal. In addition, the best participants in the quiz evenings receive small gifts from regional producers, which increases the appreciation for local products and traditions.

The LinGoLux project, initiated by Aurélia Pattou in collaboration with GAL Leader Miselerland, is supported by various funding sources, including the Ministry of Family, Solidarities, Life and Hospitality. This integrative approach shows that it is not just about learning languages, but also about enjoying shared cultural experiences.
