In the Merzig-Wadern region the motto on June 19, 2025 is “Welcome to other people’s gardens”. On this day, numerous garden owners opened their doors and invited curious visitors to discover their private green oasis. Heike and Peter Spletzer, who live at Kapellenstrasse 6 in Gehweiler, were well prepared for this special day and were expecting unannounced guests in their home garden.
The Association of horticultural associations in Saarland/Rhineland-Palatinate encouraged amateur gardeners to showcase their gardens and thereby contribute to enriching the local gardening scene. The “open garden day” started at 10 a.m. and offered a wonderful opportunity to discover the diversity of the gardens and be inspired.
Insights into the world of hobby gardeners
The event was very popular and enabled visitors to gain insights into the creative design and maintenance of private gardens. Hobby gardeners like the Spletzers not only showcased their plants, but also their personal passion and knowledge of garden care.
