Today, November 4th, 2025, a traditional tree planting for 146 new fifth graders took place at Theley Community School. This event, which has been celebrated as an “entry ritual” for over 25 years, brought the students and teachers together on a lawn at the edge of the schoolyard. In her speech, school principal Ute Strozynski emphasized the symbolism of the tree, which represents the growth and development of children, while caretaker Alex Weber informed the students about the care of the trees and planting techniques.

During this ceremony, a plum tree was planted with the help of two students, laying the foundation for a planned orchard. Each school child also had the opportunity to record their wishes for their time at school and the future on a special form. These forms are placed in a time capsule that is “planted” near the vintage tree. This custom not only strengthens the students' identification with the school, but also promotes their connection to nature.
