Neo-Nazis threaten CSD: Protest announced on June 8th in Saarbrücken!
On Sunday, June 8, 2025, a group of young neo-Nazis from Saarland is planning a rally under the motto “Tradition & Home instead of CSD”. The event will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Luisenbrücke in Saarbrücken and is part of a series of demonstrations organized under the banner of the “Together for Germany” campaign. This rally will be promoted via social networks such as Instagram, with the organizers, Dennis Prakenings and Sascha Dominikowski, having already carried out similar actions in Lebach, Saarlouis and St. Wendel. The next planned demonstration is scheduled to take place on June 28th in Neunkirchen.
The campaign aims to mobilize neo-Nazis, AfD supporters, conspiracy ideologues and cross-front esotericists. In recent months there has been a worrying increase in attacks on queer people and CSD events in Germany and internationally. In Saarbrücken in particular, there were attacks on people who were identified as queer, which, according to de.indymedia.org, illustrates the goal of the neo-Nazis: the destruction of queer life.
Right-wing threats to queer people
In a broader context, queer people in East Germany are increasingly exposed to right-wing threats. In many regions, the AfD is the strongest political force, which has a negative impact on the security of CSD events. The Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Schönebeck near Magdeburg, the first CSD in Germany in 2025, had already been canceled prematurely by the police and public order office because there were not enough security personnel available. The co-organizer, Falko Jentsch, criticized the bureaucratic hurdles and the rejection of volunteer security personnel as these would undermine the political message of the event, as tagesschau.de reported.
Right-wing attacks on CSDs are an acute problem, particularly in Saxony-Anhalt. Organizers like Ocean Hale Meißner from the CSD in Döbeln report a hostile climate characterized by past attacks. Last year, the event in Döbeln was overshadowed by a butyric acid attack. In Thuringia, the small party “Der III Weg” is mobilizing against the CSD in Erfurt, which underlines the need for cooperation with the security authorities. Richard Gleitsmann, spokesman for Erfurt Pride, appeals to everyone involved to take the protection of anti-queer attacks seriously, as tagesschau.de notes.
Mobilization for the CSD in Saarbrücken
Against the background of this increasing threat, Antifa Saar / Project AK is calling for the defense of the CSD in Saarbrücken. Antifascists are asked to come to the rally and bring signs, banners and flags. This commitment is important to send a visible signal against the attacks on the queer community and to show solidarity.
Sven Lehmann, the Federal Government's Queer Commissioner, has strongly condemned the threat to LGBTIQ* rights from authoritarian forces. He emphasizes that the fight against LGBTIQ* hostility is a permanent social task. The ARD documentary “Queer in the Province” highlights the challenges that queer people face in rural regions and underlines the need for visibility and education.
It remains to be seen what reactions the planned neo-Nazi rally in Saarbrücken will provoke and whether it will be possible to defend a space for queer life and diversity.
