Remembrance of an artistic tradition
The foundation not only offers insights into art, but also links historical aspects of art creation in the region. Leo Kornbrust, who founded the International Stone Sculpture Symposium in 1971, brought together artists from six countries to create significant works of art from stone. This symposium is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and is closely linked to the creation of a sculpture route that runs through the St. Wendeler Land and offers a large space for the internationality of art. The streets are dedicated to a pioneer of modernism, Otto Freundlich, whose vision of a sculpture street connecting peoples blossomed during the 1930s.
The sculpture route, which stretches from St. Aubin-sur-Mer to Moscow, is characterized by local and international flair and attracts visitors interested in art. The anniversary program also includes an exhibition at the St. Wendel Museum that honors Leo Kornbrust's graphic work, along with photographs and film material that bring his important works to life.
