Mountain bikers collect for children with cancer: record event at Bostalsee!
Mountain bikers from Freisen have once again proven that they are not only athletic but also socially committed. The charity campaign has been taking place at Bostalsee since 2018 and is organized by the “Grüne Hölle Freisen” cycling club. Last Friday, around 1,335 bikers took part in what has now become an annual event and experienced an unforgettable night on their bikes. The first long night had a significantly lower number of participants with 39 athletes, which underlines the rapidly increasing popularity of the event.
In a total of 12 hours, the mountain bikers covered a remarkable 63,851 kilometers, which corresponds to 9,389 laps around Lake Bostal. Uwe Glasen, sports director of MSC Mithras Schwarzerden, expressed his thanks for the support and commented on the athletes' great commitment and willingness to participate. This event is now one of the largest popular sporting events in Saarland and combines sport and charity in a unique way.
The importance of the event
The mountain bike night at Bostalsee not only has a sporting character, but also pursues an important goal: supporting children with cancer. The donations collected during the event will benefit the Parents' Initiative of Children with Cancer Saar e.V. and the Stefan Morsch Foundation. These nonprofit organizations are committed to helping seriously ill children and their families.
Sponsors donate a certain amount for every kilometer driven, while flat-rate amounts also contribute to support. The event, which this year will take place on June 21st from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. the next morning, also offers several incentives for participants. An entry fee of 15 euros allows bikers to take part in the event and ensures ISO drinks as well as bars and fruit are provided.
On-site support
The repeated support from regional companies, including the hotel “Seezeitlodge” and the bicycle retailer “The B-Site”, shows the great community commitment to the cause. Susanne Morsch from the Stefan Morsch Foundation also thanked the athletes for their tireless commitment and acknowledged their contribution to supporting cancer patients.
Mountain Bike Night is more than just a competition; It is an offer to everyone who wants to do something good through their sporting achievements. At a time when social responsibility and community spirit are becoming increasingly important, this event is a great example of commitment. With every kilometer driven, participants show solidarity and hope.
