Traditional midpoint run in Eppelborn: 400 runners take off!

The Eppelborn district of Habach hosted the 18th Saarland Center Run on July 11, 2025, which attracted a remarkable number of participants of almost 400 runners. The event, which honors the geometric center of Saarland, began at 6 p.m. and covered a distance of around five kilometers through picturesque forest areas. Mayor Dr. Andreas Feld warmly welcomed the participants and thanked the volunteers who contributed to the success of the event.

An innovation this year was the introduction of a walking category that was not timed. The event attracted a diverse group of participants and was supported by the use of modern technology; The results of the run were shown both on a big screen and online www.meisterchip.de available. The participants were ranked in five categories: 4-man teams, 4-woman teams, 4-man mixed teams, men's individual runners and women's individual runners.

Winners and honors

The event not only offered the opportunity to recognize the sporting achievements of the participants, but also the group with the largest number of participants was honored. The community of Eppelborn was represented among the active runners with 16 participants, which demonstrated their enthusiasm for sports. The prominent participants included Mayor Jörg Gampe and economic developer Torsten Drescher from Finsterwalde, who also successfully completed the race.

After the sporting competition, an after-run party took place on the festival site, where DJ Alwin ensured a good atmosphere. This celebration was the perfect end to a successful day and brought participants together to celebrate their successes and make new acquaintances.

The children's run – a special highlight

The next day the event continued with the 8th children's run, which had the motto “Children in focus - children help run”. Young athletes were able to compete in two age groups: a 500-meter run for children up to 7 years old and a 1000-meter run for children up to 14 years old. Each child who took part in the race received a sweet surprise as a reward, which particularly pleased the excited little runners.

The organizers and participants are optimistic about the next event next year. This year's run impressively showed how connected and active the community of Habach is and how events like the center run can strengthen a sense of community.
