Secular sounds in the church: Ottweiler singing musicians invite you!

On Sunday, May 25th, there will be a special concert by the Ottweiler Singtoniker in the Ottweiler Catholic Church, which will begin at 5 p.m. As part of this event, which interprets the world of music in church spaces differently, the “voice” is the focus this year as instrument of the year. The Singtoniker, supported by the friends of the Heinitz Singing Circle, will present a diverse program. Visitors can expect a mixture of contemplative tunes, modern pop songs and international film music. In addition, tenor Rainer Quinten will perform an operetta aria as a solo.

Admission to this concert is free, but a donation box will be set up to support the choir's activities. This event sets itself apart from traditional church concerts by highlighting secular music in an attempt to appeal to a broader audience. The Ottweiler Singtoniker have established themselves as an ambitious men's choir in recent years and welcome new singers at any time.

Changes in the choir

However, the Singtonians are also at a turning point. After ten years, their choir director, Timo Thiel, announced that he would be leaving the group at his own request. Thiel's time in the choir was characterized by dynamism, precision and a modernization of the repertoire. When he said goodbye during the AWO Ottweiler Christmas party, the singers gave him a cross-section of their songs and presented him with an individually designed thermo mug and a certificate of thanks. The mood was “molto sordo” (very subdued), which underlined the singers’ connection to Thiel.

Ines König from Blieskastel was won as his successor. She already has experience with several choirs in Saarland and is convinced of the vocal quality and cohesion of the singing musicians. The choir rehearsals continue to take place on Fridays at 4 p.m. in the rehearsal room of the former elementary school in Ottweiler-Steinbach and begin again on January 10, 2025. Guest singers who are interested are cordially invited to listen, sing along and join in the celebration - no prior registration is required.

Festivities after the concert

After the concert on May 25th, visitors also have the opportunity to attend the volunteer fire department festival in the Old Pond. The Ottweiler Singtoniker invite all citizens, supporters and concert goers to take part in this cultural event and wish them a peaceful celebration and a healthy New Year.

The diversity of the music and the commitment of the singing musicians make the concert on May 25th a not-to-be-missed event in the community. So reports too Weekly Mirror Online about the upcoming event and the changes in the choir, especially about the farewell to Timo Thiel and the new chapter under the direction of Ines König. Further details about the activities of the Singtoniker can be found in the Wittich newspaper.
