Big reader hike: Register now for the tour to the Saar loop!

An exciting reader hike from Orscholz to Mettlach is on the program on June 5, 2025. This event is divided into three stages and offers the option to abandon the hike after the first or second stage. “Saarbrücker Zeitung reports that a free shuttle bus will take participants back to the Cloef Atrium in Orscholz after the end of their hiking day. The hike begins on Saturday at 10 o'clock and promises an unforgettable experience in nature.

For each participant, Sparda-Bank Südwest and its profit savings association donate ten euros to the SZ charity campaign Hilf-Mit!, which makes the hike not only a sporting but also a social activity.

The hiking route and its special features

The route leads from Orscholz to the impressive Cloef viewpoint, which towers high above the Great Saar Loop near Mettlach. This Saar loop is considered a national geotope and attracts numerous hikers with its breathtaking views. The entire tour is 5.90 km long, with an ascent of 360 meters and a descent of 361 meters, making it a pleasant challenge. According to Tourentagebuch, the average tour duration is around 2.5 hours.

The start and finish point of the hike is at the Cloef/Saarschleife hiking car park in Orscholz. The hiking route runs partly on the European long-distance hiking trail E3 and the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig. A detailed route description takes participants past the rehabilitation center, through the beech forest and to various viewing points from where they can enjoy an impressive view of the surrounding area.

Weather-related challenges

Despite the anticipation of the hike, weather conditions can affect the course. Rain, in particular, can make the paths in the forests slippery, requiring extra caution when hiking. Participants should therefore pay attention to the weather and adapt their equipment if necessary.

With varied nature and the opportunity to view the Saar loop from different perspectives, the hike will certainly be a highlight for all participants. The combination of sporting activity and social commitment makes this event a special experience.
