In St. Ingbert, the renovation of Kohlenstrasse will begin on Monday, May 29, 2025, in order to open Poststrasse to bicycle traffic. This extensive construction work is scheduled to be carried out by the end of August 2025. The cycle path is expected to be completed by the end of October 2025, as SR.de reports.
The construction site will be subject to various restrictions, which will also affect adjacent streets. In the first construction phase, Kohlenstrasse between Neunkircher Weg and Theresienstrasse will be closed to one lane. This means that access to Josefstaler Straße will not be possible. In addition, the passage for pedestrians from Josefstaler Straße to Kohlenstraße and from Theresienstraße to Kohlenstraße will be closed. In addition, the parking lot at the intersection of Josefstaler Straße/Kohlenstraße and the “Thume Eck” green area cannot be used.
Construction phases and traffic restrictions
The second construction phase stipulates that the right lane between Theresienstrasse and Rickertstrasse will be closed. Access to Theresienstrasse and Theodorstrasse will only be possible to a limited extent. The sidewalk along the construction site will also be completely closed, which is why pedestrians should use the opposite side of the street. Drivers are asked to allow extra time and avoid the construction site.
Detours for traffic, cyclists and pedestrians will be signposted to make the situation as safe and smooth as possible.

In this context, the State Office for Road Construction (LfS) points out the urgency of observing full closures. There have recently been increasing cases in which road users, including cyclists, have ignored these closures. St-Ingbert.de reports that ignoring closures creates dangerous situations for cyclists and construction workers on site. In addition, full closures are necessary for valid reasons in order to avoid dangers such as unsecured construction pits and the presence of heavy machinery.
The LfS appeals to all road users to follow the instructions of the authorities and construction companies and to use diversions. Not only can non-compliance be dangerous, but it can also be punished as a misdemeanor, which can have legal consequences, including fines.
Short-term construction site on the A6
In addition, short-term construction work is planned on the A6 between Rohrbach and St. Ingbert-Mitte, which will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
