Schools in Rohrbach-Berg celebrate the diverse enjoyment of food!

On June 2, 2025, the “All About Food” project in Rohrbach-Berg was successfully completed with a day of action. All five schools in the district capital took part in this valuable project, which addresses the diverse meaning of food beyond just the consumption of food. Students like Miriam Kropfmüller and Olivia Hauer led through the program, which included numerous information stands on topics such as food packaging and sugar content and offered numerous samples.

The careful handling of food was the central focus of the project. Short interviews with the principals of the schools involved showed the importance of the topic. Roland Berlinger from the vocational school (BBS), for example, spoke about a pleasure course, while Christiane Miller from the vocational school emphasized the role of students in the food trade. In addition, Christian Peinbauer from the health and nursing school and Nikolaus Stelzer from the high school highlighted various aspects of food processing, including supporting nursing staff with eating and the need for food analysis.

Community and sustainability in focus

In his speech, Mayor Andreas Lindorfer emphasized the importance of regionality, sustainability and community in connection with food. These aspects are not only central to the project, but are also in line with current trends in nutrition. Loud Dietary change Consumers are increasingly focusing on regional foods and their production, with sustainability being a crucial criterion.

However, there is no universal solution for a sustainable food system. Regionalization is important, but must be combined with different approaches. This includes a focus on plant-based products and seasonal consumption. Regionally produced food can still be produced in a way that is harmful to the environment, which is why a differentiated approach is necessary. The demand for regional products is particularly high for fresh foods such as eggs, vegetables, bread, meat and milk. Future policy actions are needed to enhance the full impact of regionalization.

Raising awareness and intercultural aspects

The “Around Food” project not only aims at simple food intake, but also aims to create awareness of the cultural significance of food. This happens not least against the background of regional identity, which is essential for social cohesion and at the same time promotes cultural exchange. Gerhard Huber, a representative of the educational region, also praised the schools' impressive presentations and their commitment.

The day of action and the activities included in it contributed both to raising awareness about the careful handling of food and to increasing awareness of sustainability and regionality. At a time when the challenges of globalized food production are becoming increasingly noticeable, it is crucial that such projects are continued and expanded.
