Homburg's new summer oasis: relaxation oasis opened!
On May 27, 2025, a new, inviting space was opened in Homburg: the “Sommeroasis.” The location, which was formerly used as a taxi stand at “Blume 2000”, was redesigned as part of the federal program for sustainable inner cities and centers (ZiZ). Mayor Michael Forster had the honor of opening the new area, which was designed under the motto “cozy, shady, relaxed”. The detailed floor graphics with their play of green colors provide a visual accent that is intended to attract both citizens and visitors. In the weeks before the opening, the project sparked a lot of conversation in the city, which can look forward to an increasing quality of stay.
The square, which is part of the inner city laboratory project, not only offers shaded areas with a variety of seating options, but is also intended to offer additional quality of stay through a planned “parklet”. Visitors can use lounge chairs, bistro tables and a green seating area to enjoy time outdoors. This transformation of the area was realized under the direction of the city's Office of Economic Development and City Marketing, which is also planning future redevelopments in the city center.
Design and gastronomy
In addition to the existing two larger benches, the planned furniture also includes additional furniture that will be added gradually. Visar Kalludra from “Memory Burger” will play a central role in this by taking care of the maintenance of the place. Visitors can also look forward to culinary offerings: “Memory Burger”, the ice cream parlor “Dolce amore” and the restaurant “Yedo” deliver their meals directly to the square. Ordering is easy using a QR code and allows guests to come there with their own snacks and drinks.
The opening of the square was celebrated with a day of festivities. In bright sunshine, those present were able to enjoy an Italian-Japanese buffet. Numerous guests were also welcomed, including Alderman Nathalie Kroj and the mayor Christine Caster. In his opening speech, Forster emphasized the ongoing efforts to improve the quality of stay in Homburg. Sustainable measures such as unsealing Ilmenauer Platz are also being planned.
Future outlook
The summer oasis is expected to be open until the end of summer 2025. The “Parklet” will also be delivered from mid-June, which will create additional incentives with high seating options and green seating. With the measures already implemented in the city center, such as on Christian-Weber-Platz and Eisenbahnstrasse, Homburg has taken a clear step towards a more attractive city center.
For Homburg's citizens and visitors, the newly created summer oasis not only offers a place to relax, but also a space to linger and enjoy. The city of Homburg is demonstrating its commitment to a sustainable city center and cordially invites everyone to explore the new oasis.
The official opening of the summer oasis is planned for May 31, 2025 and will certainly represent another highlight in Homburg's urban development.
