In the 1st Pool Billiards Bundesliga, the title race was extremely exciting right up to the last match day. The Weekly Mirror reports that BV Brotdorf won 6-2 in the last two games against Hamburg and Wedding-Berlin. Despite this strong performance, it was not enough for Brotdorf to overtake the reigning champions BC Oberhausen, who clearly won 7-1 against SG Johannesberg. Due to a poorer set ratio, Brotdorf ultimately took second place.
A decisive factor for Brotdorf was the absence of team captain Tim Görgen in the last two games of the season. The team was therefore unable to develop the necessary dominance that would have been required to challenge Oberhausen. Even two 8-0 wins wouldn't have been enough for Brotdorf to win the championship. If the points and sets were equal, the direct comparison would have counted which Brotdorf would have won.
Runner-up and regional success
The runner-up is already the third since BV Brotdorf was promoted in 2022. “We are proud of the achievements of our billiards players and plan to attack again next season,” explained a club representative. The BV Brotdorf second team also achieved success by taking third place in the Central Regional League. She won against both Eisenach (6:2) and Gelnhausen (5:3).
In addition, BV Brotdorf is active in Saarland and takes part in BVS games with four other teams. This regional presence underlines the club's commitment to the sport of billiards and its promotion.
Promotions and successes from the region
BCO pool billiards. Before the last matchday, the BCO takes over the lead in the 1st Bundesliga after the penultimate matchday weekend was successful. Captain Andreas Roschkowsky strategically positioned his team for the decisive games, including players like Luca Menn and Felix Vogel.
The promotion of BCO 4 to the BVW Oberliga is particularly pleasing. They secured promotion with a 6-2 away win at 1. PBSC Wesel 3. The BCO 6 team also achieved similar success with a clear 7-1 win against TV Borghorst 2, which cemented their place in the national league.
The successes are not just limited to the Bundesliga. The BCO men's and women's teams won both gold and silver in the team competition at the European Championships in Tallinn, Estonia. While the women's team lost in the shootout against Austria in the final, the men triumphed with a 2-1 win against the same nation.
Overall, the sport of billiards in Germany is showing dynamic development. Both BV Brotdorf and BCO set standards through their sporting achievements and their active participation in competitions at regional and international level.
