Redesign of the Stadtbad” bus stop will start in Saarbrücken in 2026!
The city's Central Municipal Waste Management Company (ZKE) has completed the construction work on Richard-Wagner-Straße. On Thursday, July 10, 2025, the modernized rain and wastewater sewer between house numbers 2 and 6 was successfully put into operation. This measure is part of a broader project that also includes the redesign of the “Stadtbad” bus stop and the renovation of the crossing aid. The condition of the canals below the stop was examined as part of the work and classified as in need of modernization. The total costs for the work on Richard-Wagner-Straße amount to around 500,000 euros.
The work on Dudweilerstrasse, which was carried out due to urgently needed repairs to the stormwater sewer, was completed on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, three weeks earlier than planned. This measure, which became necessary due to a canal collapse, cost around 80,000 euros. The construction site on Dudweilerstrasse was kept small so that the work could progress quickly and traffic safety could be restored as quickly as possible.
Barrier-free conversion of the “Stadtbad” stop
The barrier-free conversion of the “Stadtbad” stop is planned for the coming year 2026. This includes the installation of special ramp stones and guidance elements for blind and visually impaired people. The existing crossing aid will also be made barrier-free to make access easier for all users.
Brief overview of the ZKE
The Central Municipal Waste Management Company (ZKE) is not only responsible for handling construction projects, but also contributes to many other aspects of the municipal infrastructure. Among other things, the ZKE takes care of the disposal and recycling of waste, a task of increasing importance in today's society. The organization is active in the former independent town of Malstatt-Burbach, where the historic town hall is located on Paul-Schmook-Straße.
The ZKE thus ensures that not only the sewer system remains in good condition, but also that necessary adjustments are made to meet the requirements of modern urban planning.
