Find out everything about the draw for the 2025 DFB Cup, with exciting games for 1. FC Saarbrücken and SV Elversberg.

Difficult fate for SV Elversberg: Duel against SSV Ulm is imminent!

In the first main round of the DFB Cup, SV Elversberg meets SSV Ulm, a relegated team from the second division. The draw for this game caused mixed reactions in the Elversberger camp. Sports director Ole Book describes the draw as one of the most difficult, especially given that the SVE has had more difficulties than successes against Ulm in the past. Striker Luca Schnellbacher and right winger Manuel Feil agreed with this assessment and also expressed negative opinions about the clash. In previous encounters, Elversberg has only managed one win against Ulm, namely 2-1 in 2019.

In addition to Elversberg, 1. FC Saarbrücken plays against second division team 1. FC Magdeburg. FCS sports director Jürgen Luginger also referred to Magdeburg coach Markus Fiedler and recalled a previous defeat against him. In another encounter, FC Homburg will face Holstein Kiel, also a second division team. Homburg's captain Mart Ristl is happy to see Phil Harres again, a former FCH player who now works for Kiel. Harres was previously top scorer in the Regionalliga before making the jump to the Bundesliga. Sports director Michael Koch von Homburg sees the draw as feasible and emphasizes the importance of Harres' return.

More exciting encounters

Bayern Munich awaits third division team SV Wehen Wiesbaden in a high-class encounter. The record champions have not won the cup since 2020 and were eliminated in the round of 16 last season. Defending champion VfB Stuttgart plays against Eintracht Braunschweig, while last year's finalist Arminia Bielefeld has to play against Werder Bremen.

The duel between Borussia Dortmund and Rot-Weiss Essen (3rd league) is also eagerly awaited. RB Leipzig faces the challenge of a game against fourth division club SV Sandhausen, while runners-up Bayer Leverkusen face SG Sonnenhof Großaspach.

Participation of fifth division teams

A total of five fifth division teams are represented in the first round. Four of these teams have to prove themselves against first division teams: FV Engers meets Eintracht Frankfurt, Atlas Delmenhorst challenges Borussia Mönchengladbach, FK Pirmasens plays against Hamburger SV and SV Hemelingen duels with VfL Wolfsburg. The draw, which was carried out by sprinter Owen Ansah, received particular attention.

The individual games are scheduled for August 26th and 27th, while Bayern and Stuttgart will meet in the Supercup on August 16th.
