Boundless encounters: Olena Chelnokova's multiversal art in Saarbrücken

The exhibition “Biblical Stories Beyond Time and Space” by the artist Olena Chelnokova opens today, June 4, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the WELTRAUM in Saarbrücken. The exhibition period extends from May 29th to June 28th, 2025. In her work, Chelnokova addresses the crossing of boundaries between religion, history and personal experience. The exhibition is open Wednesday to Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., as Wochenspiegel Online reports.

Chelnokova's works are inspired by biblical themes, but far from traditional illustrations. Instead, they present portals to alternative realities. The artist represents the perspective of the multiverse, in which sacred stories are not static but vary and transform. This view refers to the loss of orientation in modern times and the striving for a new identity. Her work “Exodus,” for example, addresses universal human experiences through characters who cross boundaries.

Thematic focuses of the exhibition

Looking closer at the individual works, it becomes clear that Chelnokova raises profound emotional questions. Entitled “Who are you, White Bull?” she examines the paradox between sacrifice and freedom. Another work, “Who is this coming one”, invites you to internally deal with existential questions. Light plays a crucial role in Chelnokova's works and is presented as an access code to inner experiences and mystical dimensions.

The exhibition thus creates spaces for reflection and engagement with the themes of loss, hope and identity. Not only are religious aspects discussed, but the effects of the war in Ukraine are also addressed. Night of the Churches Saar highlights that Chelnokova uses the lens of the multiverse to reinterpret familiar storylines.

Art and music combined

A special highlight of the opening event is the concert by the songwriter THE LAKE AND THE WOLF, who will perform from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Access to the exhibition will be limited during the concert. The artist has given more than 800 concerts in the last ten years and collaborated with well-known musicians. Peter Urban has described his music as “extraordinary and genuinely moving”.

In addition, visitors are provided with an offer of wine and bread as well as opportunities for encounters and dialogue, which further enriches the event. Chelnokova's exhibition and the accompanying concert thus offer a space for faith, life and existential questions that often come up in modern everyday life.
