Herchenbach celebrates the opening of Gert-Müller-Platz with 1000 guests!

On Saturday an important event took place in Herchenbach, where the village square was officially renamed Gert-Müller-Platz. The renaming honored Gert Müller, who died almost three years ago and was known to many through his involvement in the community. An estimated 800 to 1,000 people came together in a festive setting to celebrate this event. Among the visitors was Carmen Scheffler, who expressed her delight at the positive response.

Gert-Müller-Platz will now serve as an important meeting point for the community. The naming is a symbolic sign of appreciation for Müller and his services to Herchenbach. This square, previously known as the “village square”, will now keep the memory of Gert Müller alive and provide a place for shared activities.

Educational issues in Püttlingen spark discussions

The preparations for the all-day school were already well advanced. Teachers had already developed concepts and many parents had coordinated their plans with the all-day offer. Tanja Friedrich from SPD/Die Linke described this decision as irresponsible and harmful for families. Furthermore, it is seen as a missed opportunity for urban development and children's educational opportunities.

Future of school education

From the 2026/27 school year, there will be a nationwide legal right to all-day care for primary school children. The all-day school should be more than just a care offer; It should create additional educational quality and offer young families an important opportunity. Pascal Arweiler from the SPD emphasized the importance of this school for the community.

Mayor Denise Klein will present the matter to the municipal supervisory authority, and the parliamentary groups expect an objectively based review of this decision. Despite the current challenges, the SPD/The Left and Alliance 90/The Greens continue to reaffirm their commitment to the all-day school and the support of parents and teachers.
