New speed cameras in Trier and Luxembourg: drivers face severe penalties!

New locations for speed measurements have been announced in the Trier, Wittlich, Bitburg, Daun and Luxembourg areas. As Volksfreund reports, the speed checks will take place on different days in June. On Monday, June 16th, speed cameras will be set up on the L52 Hasborn, B51 Oberstedem and B51 Trier, among others.

The controls in the coming days will also include the A60 in Prüm, the L135 in Saarburg and the B50n in Zeltingen-Rachtig. On Wednesday, June 18th, several speed cameras will be active again at various locations around Trier. There are also additional speed camera reports from Luxembourg, where a daily announcement is made by the police.

Mobile and stationary speed cameras in Trier

Both mobile speed cameras and stationary traffic light speed cameras are in use in Trier. The first measuring columns were installed at various locations such as Martinsufer (B49)/Ausoniusstrasse at the end of May 2021. Other measuring columns are located, for example, on Wasserweg/Schöndorfer Straße and in Trierer Südallee.

Traffic light speed cameras are not only responsible for speed checks: they also document violations of road traffic regulations, especially running through red lights. According to Bussgeldcheck, fines for such violations can amount to up to 360 euros, depending on the severity of the violation.

Fines and their consequences

The following penalties are imposed for a red light violation in Trier: 90 euros and 1 point for running a red light for a maximum of one second. For more serious violations, such as running a red light in a dangerous manner, there are penalties of up to 320 euros and two points, plus a one-month driving ban. In Luxembourg, too, the fines are not without their fines: here the penalties range from 49 euros for minor violations to 10,000 euros for serious offenses.

Worth mentioning is the cost structure of the six measuring columns in Trier, which totals around 240,000 euros, with a large part, 140,000 euros, going to the measuring devices. A bizarre incident also occurred at the end of June 2021, when a traffic light speed camera was driven around in Trier-Nord, which further fueled the discussion about their safety.

Stationary speed cameras in Luxembourg

In Luxembourg, stationary speed cameras are active at other locations, including on the N12 Emeschbach, N7 Dorscheid and B7/A7 Schieren. On Monday, June 16th, speed cameras will be installed in Junglinster and Leudelange, for example. Here, too, it is important to take speeding seriously, as the fines can be severe both in town and outside town.

The educational and prevention measures by the police in both regions show that they want to take decisive action against traffic violations in order to increase traffic safety.
