Discover the beauties of the Moselle: European Union on a journey of discovery!
On November 3, 2025, the Europa-Union, Amberg-Sulzbach district association, undertook a remarkable trip to the Moselle, Trier and Luxembourg and to the European vineyard in Ipsheim. This trip not only offered cultural and historical highlights, but also the opportunity for exquisite wine tasting. Tour guide Günther Mitschke had organized an extensive program that took the participants on an exciting tour of discovery.
The tour group reached Trier, a city known as a UNESCO World Heritage City. Here travelers could admire impressive sights from Roman times, including the famous Porta Nigra. This historic site is a testament to the city's rich past and part of the heritage that has shaped Europe. According to the List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Europe There are numerous such sites spread across Europe that reflect the region's cultural heritage.
Insights into Luxembourg
After staying in Trier, the group continued their journey and visited the majestic Notre-Dame de Luxembourg Cathedral. The impressive architecture and spiritual atmosphere of this place added to the fascination of the trip. The route also led through the picturesque Müllertal to Echternach, which is considered the oldest city in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
In the evening, the participants enjoyed a wine tour at the Johannishof winery, located in Langsur-Mesenich. Here we not only tasted different types of wine from the region, but also learned about the tradition of wine growing in the vineyards on the Moselle. The trip was described as “indescribably beautiful and interesting” and also included four wine tastings within two days.
European vineyard in Ipsheim
Another highlight of the trip was the visit to the European vineyard in Ipsheim. The group was received there by the chairman of the district association, Hans-Jochen Teufel. The European vineyard is a remarkable project that presents 39 different European grape varieties from a total of 14 wine-growing countries. This unique concept not only promotes viticulture, but also cultural exchange within Europe.
In addition, a special recognition will be introduced on Europe Day, honoring students for designing artist labels. This innovative commitment underlines the connection between art and wine and further colors Europe's cultural landscape.
Weather conditions during the trip improved throughout the morning, allowing participants to enjoy pleasant outdoor experiences. Europe, as a continent with its multifaceted cultures and scenic beauty, once again shows its best side here.
Overall, the Europa-Union trip offers insights not only into wine culture, but also into Europe's rich history and heritage. By visiting historical sites and exchanging cultural values, the goal of European integration, which is also anchored in the developments of the last decades, is further promoted , as the history of the continent shows.
