50 years of Hochwald-Alm: A treasure for hikers in Wadrill!
The Hochwald-Alm in Wadrill is celebrating a special anniversary this year: the leisure and rest area was founded 50 years ago. In 1975, some young men from Hermerich had the pioneering idea of setting up a community project on the road to Hochwaldalm. They presented their plan to the then mayor Martin Görgen, who commented positively on the project. The site chosen for this was a former plantation garden that had previously been fallow for several years. An existing tool shed also provided a useful basis for implementing the plans, as Saarbrücker Zeitung reports.
Today the Hochwald-Alm is not only a place of memories, but also a popular destination for hikers. It lies at an altitude of 564 meters and is the only alpine pasture in Saarland. Many visitors use the adjacent hiking trails such as “Almglück” and the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig to get to the alpine pasture. The Alm is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and entry is free, making it an attractive destination for nature lovers, as the website Touren Saarland highlights.
