Mill festival in Theley: tradition, music and crafts on Whit Monday!

This year’s “German Mill Day” will take place on Whit Monday, June 9, 2025, at the Johann-Adams-Mühle in Theley. Over 1,000 mills in Germany open their doors on this day and offer a varied program for the whole family. The Johann-Adams-Mühle, which traditionally takes part in this event, is expecting numerous visitors and has prepared an extensive festival program.

The event begins at 11 a.m. with a musical performance by the brass ensemble “Schaumberg Brass,” followed by accordion music by Hans Josef Recktenwald. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., the brass ensemble “Blech Present” will provide musical entertainment on the festival meadow. Guests can look forward to a diverse cultural experience.

Craft market and hands-on activities

A highlight of Mill Day is the craft market, which takes place outside and in the mill. Here visitors can experience old craft techniques up close. Jutta Klos will bake oven-fresh bread from 12 p.m., while Gerhard Niklas will demonstrate turning and scythes. Rudolf Stark shows how baskets are woven. For the little guests there is an exciting children's program with hands-on leather working activities by Felix Kruschardt and pottery activities with Elfi Pazen.

The catering supply is ensured by several providers. Food and drinks come from the Schaumberg Theley table tennis club, the Schaumberger Jägern, Georg Kunrath’s Baumstriezelhütte and Gabriele Burgio’s Italian food truck “Sicilia Bella”.

History of the Johann Adams Mill

Anyone interested can take part in a tour of the district mill museum at 2 p.m., where the history of the Johann Adams Mill will be presented. This mill was first mentioned in 1589, and the current buildings date from 1735. The Johann-Adams-Mühle is one of the last intact historic watermills in Saarland and therefore has not only historical but also cultural importance in the region.

The event is supported by the Kreissparkasse St. Wendel. If you have any questions or would like further information, you can contact the municipality of Tholey on (06853) 508-66.

The “German Mill Day” promises a colorful festival full of music, crafts and history that keeps the tradition of mills in Germany alive. Be there and experience an unforgettable day at the Johann-Adams-Mühle.
