Nohfelden City Council: Unity on barbecue area and speed limit of 30!
At the meeting of the local council in Nohfelden on May 30, 2025, in addition to approving the minutes of the April meeting, current projects were also on the agenda. The council members unanimously approved the minutes, thereby approving the first item on the agenda, which was dealt with smoothly. However, the remaining points that were discussed only brought with them theoretical discussion approaches and little practical need for discussion, such as Saarbrücken newspaper reported.
The meeting addressed various current concerns that were raised in previous local council meetings. One topic that was of great concern to the local council was the planning and implementation of a new barbecue area. The decision to build it was passed unanimously at an earlier meeting and completion is scheduled to take place in time for the barbecue season in summer 2025. The square will be built next to the gymnasium and will become an important meeting place for the community to enable socializing and events, such as My Nohfelden additionally noted.
Various topics and requests
In addition to the barbecue area, information was also given about the purchase of benches for this area. A bench with back and armrests as well as two gabion benches are intended for social use. A unanimous decision was made to procure these benches. In addition, a proposal to install a socket on a lantern in the Buchwaldstrasse roundabout was rejected, meaning the traditional battery-operated Christmas tree will continue to be lit.
Another important date announced at the meeting is Seniors Afternoon, scheduled for September 20, 2025. This afternoon will feature a fun program including raffle, bingo and catering by barbecuing at the new barbecue area.
Current challenges and concerns of the community
The meeting also addressed various inquiries and concerns, including the storm-related damage to street lights and the internet connection on the Schachen, which urgently need to be repaired. The elevator at the castle will also remain out of operation for the time being, which could trigger further discussions about the accessibility of the place.
Traffic calming on Buchwaldstrasse is also a major concern of the council members. An order to introduce a 30 km/h speed limit is about to be published in order to increase pedestrian safety. With the positive development of these and other projects, the local council is demonstrating a strong commitment to a vibrant and safe community.
