SG Marpingen-Urexweiler celebrates triumphant promotion with a 6-0 win!

SG Marpingen-Urexweiler celebrated an impressive comeback in the Saarlandliga on May 20, 2025 after spending a year in the association league. The championship win was crowned with a convincing 6-0 win against SG Lebach-Landsweiler in front of 550 spectators at home. Player-coach Sören Recktenwald opened the scoring in the 35th minute. Just two minutes later, Björn Recktenwald made it 2-0 with a penalty. In the 42nd minute, Björn followed up on a pass from Maximilian Rauber and scored his second goal.

The guests from Lebach-Landsweiler were unable to create any significant chances in this game and came under increasing pressure. Marpingen continued their dominance and scored their fourth goal from a free kick from Björn Recktenwald in the 64th minute. Further goals were scored by Tobias Straß, who ended his career in the 77th minute after 30 years in Marpingen, as well as Reis and Peter Wilhelm in the final phase. Captain Yannick Schnur then highlighted the team's solidarity, which has been strengthened especially after the challenging last season.

Return to the Saarland League

With this victory, SG Marpingen-Urexweiler secured promotion to the Saarland League, which was further confirmed by a previously necessary win in the replay against 1. FC Reimsbach. Here the regular playing time as well as the extra time ended with 1:1 before the penalty shootout was decided 4:3 in favor of Marpingen. A tragedy also played a role on the pitch in Wahl: the original game had to be canceled due to the sudden death of the stadium announcer.

In the replay, Ukyo Kagami scored the opening goal for Reimsbach in the 27th minute, but Yannick Schnur equalized early after the restart. The last ten minutes of extra time became a challenge for Reimsbach as they had to operate outnumbered. In the decisive penalty shootout, Ali Mousavi's first shot failed for Reimsbach, while Jonas Schirra scored for Marpingen and the team shot into the Saarland League.

Various changes in the team

After winning the championship and promotion, there were also changes in the coaching team. Faruk Kremic, the coach of Marpingen, announced his return to SG Lebach-Landsweiler. His successor will be Björn Recktenwald, who will take over the reins not only as a player but also as the new coach and will provide a breath of fresh air.

The last game of the season is also coming up. Marpingen will face FV Biesingen next Sunday, while Lebach-Landsweiler needs a win to maintain their promotion chances. The entire team has not conceded a goal in the last five games, which underlines the defensive performance of goalkeeper Maximilian Ziegler.

For SG Marpingen-Urexweiler, the return to the Saarland League was a significant success, which was achieved through team spirit and hard work. A new chapter now begins as the team prepares for greater challenges in the coming season.
