Margo is looking for a loving home: Neutered mixed breed dog needs patience!
Margo, a 1-year-old, neutered mixed-breed dog who is urgently looking for a new home, currently lives in an animal shelter in Slovakia. Margo, born in March 2024, has had traumatic experiences in her past that have severely shaken her trust in people. However, staying at the animal shelter offers her the opportunity to gradually gain trust and learn that not all people are bad. This already shows that once trust is built up, she is an affectionate and cuddly dog who gets along well with other dogs. It is recommended that a confident first dog be present in the new home to further reduce their anxiety.
The right adopters for Margo should be understanding, experienced, and willing to invest time and patience. Children in the new home should be at least 12 years old so that they can understand Margo better. Direct access to a garden or green space would be beneficial as this can give Margo additional security. A cat test is still pending, which is why its compatibility with cats remains unknown. Even though Margo can stay alone to a certain extent, what she wants above all is to be close to people.
Health information
Margo is vaccinated, chipped and has an EU vaccination certificate. As of May 23, 2025, it is approximately 44 cm tall and weighs 10.5 kg. The responsible shelter for Margo is KS Zvolen in Slovakia, where she currently lives. The assumption is that Margo, like many of her peers, will need some time and patience to fully adjust. This is consistent with experiences made with other dogs that come from similar backgrounds.
An example of this is the story of Desi Lu, a mixed breed dog who was adopted from an animal shelter in Texas. This was taken by real estate agent Gina Thornton and also shows signs of trauma. She was initially frightened and thin, had difficulty entering the house and needed time to gain confidence. With the support of her new family, including the two other dogs in the household, Desi Lu managed to slowly open up and show joy, which encouraged and inspired many viewers of her story to show patience. A video of their introduction on TikTok, which documents the movements and progress of an animal welfare dog, received over 1.3 million views.
Margo and Desi Lu's stories illustrate the important role that patience and understanding play in shelter animals' adjustment to new homes. The fate of these dogs shows that, despite their challenges, they have great potential for a loving life with a new family.
