Herman Rarebell: Ex-Scorpions star reads from new book in Saarlouis!
Herman Rarebell, the former drummer of the famous rock band Scorpions, will read from his new book “What about Love” on June 30th at the Pieper bookstore in Saarlouis. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. Rarebell, who is 75 years old and was born in Hüttersdorf, lived in Lebach and Saarbrücken for many years before he now lives alternately in Munich and Brighton. The reading was organized by Markus Battard, a passionate Scorpions fan and Bailiff. Battard recalled an early Scorpions concert in Wallerfangen in 1975, when the band was still largely unknown.
The Scorpions' performances have left a deep impact, and interest in their music remains undiminished. Battard collected finds from the concert in question, which ultimately led to a report in the Saarbrücker Zeitung, which even attracted attention beyond the borders of Saarland, as far as New York. Battard also exhibited his finds in Wadgassen in October 2022 and met Rarebell while he was staying at Villa Faience during the corona pandemic.
Insight into the past
Rarebell, who was a member of the Scorpions from 1977 to 1996, can look back on an eventful music career. He started out in various bands such as The Mastermen and The Fuggs Blues before joining the rock band. His career includes legendary performances, including the Moscow Peace Festival in 1989 and a memorable concert at Madison Square Garden in 1984. He wrote the lyrics for many of the Scorpions' best-known songs, including "Rock You Like a Hurricane" and "Blackout."
The song “Wind of Change,” which symbolizes the end of the Cold War, was released in 78 countries and is one of the best-selling singles in music history, selling over 14 million copies. The song has 1.1 billion views on YouTube. Regarding "Wind of Change", Rarebell expressed that the musical direction and direction that Klaus Meine wanted to take after the song's success significantly led to his departure from the band. Rarebell wanted to stay in traditional rock, which the Scorpions' changes in musical direction presented challenges for him.
New project and message
Rarebell recently announced the release of his new single “What About Love?” which will be available on streaming platforms on February 14th and serves as the title track of the album of the same name. Rarebell also plans to re-record some of its old hits from the 1980s with various musicians, including Bob Daisley and Howard Leese.
